Daisy Dawg Goes Hiking

IMG00025-20081130-1422 Biking season is over and we are all burnt out from too much riding, so we have all started hiking on weekends. We have been hoping that Daisy would be able to join us on these hikes, so yesterday, Juliette and I took her for a long walk around Kern Cliff. She had a great time, but got a bit cold, so we stopped at PetSmart on the way home and bought her an oversized jacket. I then set at it with the sewing machine, adjusting it to fit.

Today, Juliette, Daisy and I met Dave, Mari, Trina, Derek and Jennie to hike from Rattlesnake Point to Crawford Lake and back. The day was overcast and a bit cold and windy. Daisy showed up decked out with her new jacket, complete with an embroidered daisy sewn on the side.

We had a lovely hike along the top of the cliff, through the valley and around the lake. Hiking is so much more fun with good friends to talk to. We covered over 13km in just over 3 hours and Daisy kept up with us the whole way. She spent the entire time going from the front of the group to the back of the group making sure everyone was there with a few timeouts to sniff exciting new things.

I was a bit worried when we settled on a smaller dog that she wouldn’t be able to share in our lifestyle, but she continues to prove me wrong. I think we got the best of the litter. Click on the picture to see the full size version.
